The Tim Martin trained I am Invincible filly Limbo Soul burst into Golden Slipper contention with a super impressive debut win at Rosehill on Wednesday after landing a massive plunge. Limbo Soul was $26 when markets first opened on the 1100 metre maiden before being crunched into favouritism to start $3.20. And the result was never in doubt, as Limbo Soul led proceedings early under Adam Hyeronimus before leaving the chasers in her wake in the run to the line. The race time of 1:04.05 was the fastest recorded of any 1100-metre juvenile race held at Rosehill this season, which includes three stakes races, and broke Omei Sword’s class record set last year. Bookmakers reacted immediately to the win, slashing Limbo Soul’s Golden Slipper quote from as high as $101 into a low of $17. Finishing three and a quarter lengths back in second was the Anthony Cummings-trained Your Song filly Memento, while Peter Robl’s She’s On Que, a sister to last Saturday’s Group II ATC Hobartville Stakes winner Man From Uncle, was another length and a half back in third. Limbo Soul can force a Golden Slipper start when she travels to Canberra for her next start in the $300,000 Group III Black Opal Stakes (1200m) on Sunday week. “She’s right in the mix, and she’ll improve a lot from today,” Martin said. “From day one she’s always shown ability – the strength and tractability was always there. “I saw her as a foal and loved her. I’ve really had a high opinion of her all the way through so today was somewhat expected.” Limbo Soul was a $90,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft for Cost Price Syndications and is the first winner for Limbo Down, a minor winner by Fastnet Rock from the family of Group III winner Handsome Ransom and stakes-winner Danajaya. Limbo Down was one of 212 mares covered by Yarraman Park’s flagship sire I am Invincible last spring.
