Champion trainer Chris Waller had the quinella in the opening juvenile event at Canterbury on Wednesday with two talented fillies by Yarraman Park sires I Am Invincible and Hinchinbrook fighting out the finish.
Sporting the colours of renowned Japanese breeder Katsumi Yoshida, Ms Rodarte enjoyed a good run up on the pace from an inside gate for Kathy O’Hara and kicked away at the top of the straight.
She kept up a good gallop to the line just hold off her fast finishing stablemate Press Box, the full sister to Group I winner Press Statement and half-sister to Group I winner Pressday.
Ms Rodarte won the 1200 metre sprint by a short head with nearly four lengths back to the third horse indicating they were a class above their rivals.
“That’s a massive result for our team as these fillies have been given the time they need,” said stable representative Charlie Duckworth.
“The fence was a big plus for Ms Rodarte, it’s like galloping with another horse.
“It’s onwards and upwards for both fillies.”
Ms Rodarte was a $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Torryburn Stud for Katsumi Yoshida and is the fourth winner from Group III winner Lucky Diva, a sibling to stakes-winners Spirit of Westbury, Gina Lollawitcha and Duke of Westbury.
Ms Rodarte is the tenth two year-old winner this season for I Am Invincible, who stands at a fee of $192,500 this spring.
