Melbourne, October 14 – Seasoned sprinter Here de Angels ran his rivals off their legs to win the $100,000 Mitty’s Cup over 1200 metres at Caulfield on Wednesday.
A relative newcomer to the Mark Kavanagh stable having transferred from Lee Freedman, Here De Angels took up the running early in the race and controlled the speed until turning for home when he kicked clear of his rivals.
A son of top class shuttle sire Dehere (USA), Here De Angels cruised home with a two and three quarter length margin over handy sprinter Ahdashim.
A gelding that has had his share of setbacks, with barrier problems being a major concern, Here De Angels is still widely regarded as a sprinter with immense ability.
"He came to us earlier in the year and he’s had a couple of barrier bans and we’ve have to change his gear," Kavanagh said.
"He’s got the ear muffs on now so he can’t hear in the barriers."
A $90,000 purchase for Slade Bloodstock from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Here de Angels has won nine races from 24 stars earning just shy of $500,000 in prizemoney.
The fourth foal and only stakes-winner for the Kenmare (Fr) mare Angelic Belle, Here De Angels was bred by Lisa Randle and sold privately to Yarraman as a foal.
His dam was a minor winner at 1400 metres, but does come from the family of Group One winner Dashing Eagle and quality performers La Caissiere, Brief Embrace and Ken’s Joy.
