Sydney, February 21 – Unbeaten Foreplay two year-old Decision Time made a successful transition to Saturday company, dashing clear of his rivals to win the open juvenile event over 1200 metres at Rosehill on Saturday by the best part of two lengths
The Clarry Conners trained gelding isn’t nominated for the Golden Slipper but if he can win the $250,000 Listed Canberra Black Opal Stakes at Thoroughbred Park on March 7, connections will pay the $150,000 late entry fee for the world’s richest two-year-old race.
“They’re too bloody lousy some of my owners,” trainer Clarry Conners joked. “They want to go to the Black Opal and if he can win there we’ll pay up for the Slipper.”
Winning jockey Nash Rawiller has no doubts Decision Time (pictured courtesy Steve Hart) is in the top bracket of Sydney’s juveniles and he wants to retain the ride.
“I’ve got no doubt he’s up to stakes level,” Rawiller said. “I’ve just told the owners I’ll go to Canberra to ride him.”
After trailing the speed through the first half of the race, Decision Time hooked around the leaders heels as the field entered the straight and drew clear to record a soft win.
“I don’t think he could have been more impressive,’ Conners said. “He’s a very professional little horse.”
Not offered for sale, Decision Time has now won at each of his three starts earning more than $103,000 in prizemoney and is from the metropolitan winning Just Awesome mare Daunting Thought from the family of English Group One winner Hittite Glory.
A stakes-winning son of Danehill (USA), Foreplay was retired to Yarraman Park where he stood at a fee of $13,200 for his debut season, however fertility troubles have sadly now curtailed his stud career.
He posted his second winner on Sunday when talented prospect Shiny and New made a winning debut at Bendigo for the Darren Weir stable.
The filly bolted in to win the 900 metre maiden by nearly three lengths in an impressive performance.
Not offered at auction, Shiny and New is from Shags’ Sister, a half-sister by Honour and Glory (USA) to stakes-winning sprinter Shags.
