Swan Hill, June 11 – Lonhro has had an amazing number of winners this season and one that has been on a real upward spiral is four year-old gelding Veewap, winner of the $70,000 Golden Topaz Sprint over 1200 metres at Swan Hill on Friday.

Trained by Tony Vasil and partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver, Veewap was travelling comfortably midfield, until he was momentarily held up when attempting to improve at the 200 metres.

He then burst through a gap to score convincingly by two lengths taking his overall record to six wins and seven placings from 17 starts with prizemoney of $169,555.

Veewap has been in rare form this preparation winning three of six starts since resuming from a spell on March 26 and ha not missed a place.

Sporting the renowned red, black and white colours of the late syndictator Harry Lawton, Veewap was snapped up from the draft of Yarraman Park at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $110,000.

Veewap has an impressive pedigree being a half-brother to Group Two winner So Gorgeous and Group Three winners Wild Queen and Cumbria from the top class producer Crowning Jewel, who is now retired from stud duties.
