Malaysia, November 22 – Aussie breds have been firing up all over Asia in recent months with Fastnet Rock four year-old Speed Baby the latest to taste stakes success after saluting in the Coronation Cup Mal Gr 1 at Ipoh in Malaysia on Sunday.
Speed Baby bolted away to win the prestigious feature event by more than seven lengths in a commanding display, taking his overall record to an impressive six wins and two seconds from eight starts.
The Kevin Coetzee trained gelding was having his first go at 1600 metres and revelled in the step up in distance to win as he pleased.
Speed Baby made a winning debut in January of this year and has worked swiftly through the grades to capture one of the best events in Malaysia.
A $280,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for Malaysian based buyer CP Bey, Speed Baby runs for the Eastern Stable and has won more than $A216,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by Tim Hughes and Ron Dufficy, Speed Baby was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park and is the first foal of Group III placed Twisted Heart, a daughter of leading US sire Distorted Humor (USA) from the family of Group II winners Katima and Deferential.
Twisted Heart had another Fastnet Rock colt sell at the Magic Millions this year for Yarraman Park making $200,000 to the bid of Danny O’Brien and she has produced a lovely Red Ransom (USA) colt this spring after having a year off.
Yarraman Park have another top class draft of 22 yearlings heading north for Magic Millions 2011.
