Sydney, September 26 – The Grahame Begg stable was in hot form on Wednesday with Magic Albert mare Magita bringing up the second leg of a winning double for the popular Randwick trainer who scored earlier in the day with Amarachi.

A last start winner at the same venue on September 5, Magita enjoyed the run of the race from barrier two and fought on strongly to the line to win the Benchmark 70 event over 1250 metre by half a neck under 58.5 kg.

“I was worried she might be too fresh, but she did the job well and carried the big weight,” said Grahame Begg.

A $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Ascot Park draft, Magita has proven a good investment for the McGrath family winning four races and placing four times from 14 starts and earning some $108,070 in prizemoney.

Magita is the only winner to date from the End Sweep (USA) mare Lukita, a daughter of Irish Group III winner From the Wood (IRE).

Lukita was one of 162 mares covered by Magic Albert last year so will produce a full sibling to Magita this spring.

Magita is another good metropolitan performer for prolific sire of winners Magic Albert, who stands at Yarraman Park this spring at a fee of $22,000.
