Melbourne, November 3 – The sad loss of Golden Slipper Catbird was again highlighted at Flemington on Tuesday with a top class performance from his progressive daughter Jersey Lily.

Under-rated mare Jersey Lily stepped out from the shadow of her superstar stablemate Hot Danish to post a Black Type victory of her own in the Listed VRC Herald Sun Stakes over 1400 metres.

The Les Bridge trained mare put the writing on the wall when making her Melbourne spring debut with a good second to Culminate in the Group Two MRC Tristarc Stakes last month and went right on with the job at Flemington, settling just off the pace and surging home down the middle of the track for Craig Williams to score by more than a length.

“She’s a delight to ride and has the right gears on raceday to go with it,” said Williams.

Not offered at auction, Jersey Lily is raced by the Lucky Line Syndicate and has won three races and placed nine times from 17 starts earning $268,330 in prizemoney.

“She’s an under-rated mare and has form around good mares like Beaded… She’s a mare I’ve always really liked,” said Les Bridge.

“We’ll take her home now and get her ready for the autumn.”

A daughter of ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird, who stood with great success at Yarraman Park before his premature death in 2007, Jersey Lily is one of five winners from the Royal Academy (USA) mare Smytzer’s Roylani and is her first stakes-winner.

Smytzer’s Roylani is a half-sister to Group III winner Real Mak and a daughter of former brilliant juvenile Paklani, winner of the Group III STC Sweet Embrace Stakes.
