Melbourne, May 29 – The opening race at Geelong on Tuesday was won by a blue-blooded three year-old Redoute’s Choice filly, who is the first foal of a former top line Group I winning mare.
A homebred for Shadwell Stud, the David Hayes trained filly Asheerah broke her maiden with a three-quarter length win over 1200 metres as a well backed favourite.
Asheerah is the first foal of the Shadwell bred mare Rewaaya, who won five races and over $700,000 in prizemoney with a highlight victory in the Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clark Stakes and four other Group I placings.
Asheerah was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park for Shadwell, as was her mother Rewaaya, who is by Singspiel (IRE) from stakes-placed Nasmah, a grand-daughter of celebrated producer Easy Date.
A prolific Black Type family, the Easy Date clan has produced notable Group I winners such as Snippets and Forensics as well as Champion 2YO Colt Zizou and highly successful sire Not a Single Doubt.
Rewaaya also has an unraced two year-old Redoute’s Choice filly called Rasmeyaa and a weanling colt by Street Cry (IRE), who she will foal to again this spring.
