Melbourne, June 9 – The open juvenile event at Flemington on Saturday was won by progressive Shamardal (USA) gelding Steep, a $100,000 Magic Millions purchase for Patinack Farm from the draft of Yarraman Park.
The John Thompson trained youngster looked good winning at Seymour at his second start on June 2 and performed well on a seven day back-up, finding the line strongly to score a determined long head win.
Steep was bred by Darley and offered for sale at the 2010 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale where he was sold for $75,000 from the same draft that has produced champion two year-old Pierro and recent New Zealand stakes-winner Excellent Reward.
He is one of three winners from Group III placed Strategic mare Gradual, a grand-daughter of Group III winner Rass Dancer.
