Sydney, February 18 – The 1900 metre restricted handicap at Canterbury on Friday night was won by progressive Encosta de Lago filly Iron Lace, a $350,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Stakes-placed in the Listed AJC Fernhill Handicap at two, the Chris Waller trained filly broke her maiden last start over 1800 metres and handled the rise in class and distance to score a strong two and a half length win.
“You have to give her some merit as a three year-old filly beating older horses and the opposite sex,” said Waller.
“She’s probably the sort of filly that might be in the Oaks category if she keeps improving.”
Raced by Mr and Mrs David Fuller of Metal Bender fame, Iron Lace has won two of 10 starts and is from the Marscay mare Orderly, a full sister to Group I AJC Epsom Handicap winner Excellerator and Group III placed Consolidator.
Yarraman Park will present another crackerjack draft of 22 youngsters for the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
