Melbourne, December 10 – With 42% winners to runners this season Magic Albert is a sire to watch adding an impressive debut winner at Moonee Valley on Friday night to his ever-growing tally of winners.
Four year-old gelding Proud Albert was well fancied to win the 1000 metre maiden on debut for the Robert Smerdon stable and ran up to expectation in powering home to win by half a length.
A $48,000 purchase from the Ferndale Farm draft at the 2008 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Proud Albert has been given plenty of time to mature and looks capable of winning better races.
A half-brother to stakes-placed Regal Centre and Mr Centrefold, Proud Albert is the sixth winner from the Centaine mare Centre, ho comes from the family of Group I sprinter Shellscrape.
Magic Albert has had 52 winners this season from 123 runners giving him an outstanding strike rate of 42% winners to runners.
The Yarraman Park based sire has 14 yearlings to be offered at Magic Millions and Inglis Classic in the New Year.
