Melbourne, October 5 – The Mike Moroney stable were in red hot form after winning the Group One AJC Spring Champion Stakes with Monaco Consul on Saturday and carried that form through to Benalla on Sunday with a maiden win for Viking Hero.

A three year-old Elvstroem colt purchased from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $160,000, Viking Hero was having his second race start and scored by a long neck in the 1500 metre maiden with three lengths back to the third horse.

Bred by Yarraman Park, Viking Hero is a half-brother to metropolitan winner Gypsy Googol, being from the well-related Zabeel mare Gypsy Dollar, a half-sister to Group One AJC Australian Derby winner Innocent King and also Girl’s Paradise, the grand-dam of Group One winning filly Unearthly, who is by Gypsy Dollar’s sire Zabeel.

Yarraman Park sold a Stratum filly from Gypsy Dollar for $160,000 at Magic Millions earlier this year to BBA, Ireland and the mare has another Stratum filly for the sales next year.
