Perth, November 25 – Group One WATC Derby winner Cats Fun burst back to top form at Ascot on Saturday when he romped away to win the Listed WATC Tatts Cup over 2200 metres.

The five year-old Catbird gelding was backed into favoritism after a fighting second last start and ran right up to expectation in racing clear over the concluding stages to win by three lengths over Ronnie and Black Douglas.

It was his first win since taking out the WA Derby in 2006 with a subsequent campaign in Melbourne last spring going awry when the horse became ill, prompting trainer Michael Grant to declare that period as ‘the worst three months of my life’.

Now that he is back to top form Cats Fun looks a great prospect for the Perth summer staying races including the Group Two WATC Perth Cup.

Cats Fun has won five races and placed five times from 23 starts earning prizemoney of $386,990 for his lucky owners.

Bred by WA based farm Dawson Stud, Cats Fun was purchased for $75,000 at the 2004 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale by John Chalmers Bloodstock.

He is the third foal of the Zabeel mare She’s Zeel (NZ), a winning daughter of New Zealand Group Two winner She’s Fun.

Dawson Stud sent She’s Zeel back to Yarraman Park last spring where she was covered by Catbird in early December.
