Sydney, June 6 – A big plunge at Canterbury on Wednesday was landed by three year-old Mossman gelding Number One Gun, an $85,000 purchase for Champion Thoroughbreds from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2010 MM National Yearling Sale.

Prepared by John O’Shea, Number One Gun was having his second run back from a spell and ploughed through the heavy conditions to beat older horses and win the Benchmark 70 event over 1100 metres by a dominant four lengths.

“He’s a lovely young horse and it’s always a good thing if they can beat the older horses, so there was plenty of merit in the win,” said stable foreman Bryce Heys.

Number One Gun is turning out to be a great money spinner for connections following his purchase by Champion Thoroughbreds, his overall record now two wins and two placings from five starts with prizemoney of $94,450.

A son of prolific winner getter Mossman, Number One Gun is a half-brother to former speedy mare Aggie Grey being one of three winners from stakes-placed Unbridled’s Song (USA) mare Graphite Lass.

Graphite Lass has a weanling colt by Yarraman young gun I Am Invincible and is now in foal to Magic Albert.
