Sydney, March 16 – Promising Encosta de Lago filly Iron Lace stamped herself as a potential Oaks filly with a strong performance to win over 1800 metres at Randwick on Wednesday.
A $350,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud, the Chris Waller trained Iron Lace made it three wins on the trot when she proved too strong for a handy field.
Ridden just off the pace by Glynn Schofield, Iron Lace loomed up in the straight and when the favourites wavered, she pounced on the lead and despite ducking in near home was too good in winning by the best part of a length.
“It was a good field as there were others there on a similar path to us in looking to go to that next level,” said Chris Waller, who has Iron Lace nominated for the Group I AJC Australian Oaks.
“She’s gained confidence from those previous wins and is going well.”
Glynn Schofield has been aboard the filly at her past three wins and was delighted with her effort.
“When horses start winning, they often like to keep doing it and she’s one of them,” he said.
Raced by Mr and Mrs David Fuller of Metal Bender fame, Iron Lace has won three of 11 starts and is from the Marscay mare Orderly, a full sister to Group I AJC Epsom Handicap winner Excellerator and Group III placed Consolidator.
Yarraman Park will present another crackerjack draft of 22 youngsters for the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
