December 3 – It’s more than four years since Catbird died prematurely at Yarraman Park and his loss was again highlighted on Saturday when the Golden Slipper winner featured as the sire of stakes-winners Monton and Wonderful Lass.

The Ron Quinton trained Monton returned to top form to win the Listed ATC Festival Stakes at Rosehill, providing young apprentice Sam Clipperton with his first stakes win.

An $80,000 purchase for bloodstock agent David Lamond from the Brooklyn Lodge draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Monton has won five of 19 starts and over $350,000 in prizemoney with a career highlight win in the Group II STC Hobartville Stakes as a three year-old.

He is the lone stakes-winner from Marauding mare Dynamic Flyer, a daughter of Group I winner Bianco Flyer.

Making it a stakes double for Catbird was the Patinack Farm owned mare Wonderful Lass, who scored her first Black Type win in the Tattersalls Recognition Stakes over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm.

A $25,000 purchase from the Edinglassie Stud draft at the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Wonderful Lass has won four of 23 starts and over $200,000 in prizemoney.

She is the 23rd stakes-winner for her sire and is from stakes-placed Snippets mare Convent Girl, a half-sister to the dam of Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Wonderful World.

A sensational source of winners and a great asset to Yarraman Park during his seven seasons at stud, Catbird has left a powerful legacy that will ensure his name is not forgotten.
