Melbourne, October 1 – Chasing black type over the Melbourne Cup Carnival after an impressive all the way win at Moonee Valley on Friday night will be promising Stratum filly Blink, a $90,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park.
A member of the Flemington stables of Danny O’Brien, Blink pounced out of the barriers and went to an early lead and from that point she wouldn’t be headed.
She was strong to the line and comfortably held out the Lee Freedman trained stablemates Belle Chantecler and Follonica.
Blink is another successful Blue Sky Thoroughbreds graduate and Danny O’Brien’s Bloodstock Sales Manager Karl Brown said the daughter of Stratum had always shown connections plenty of ability from the time she first stepped up to serious work.
"We obviously were keen to get her back onto the dry track," Brown said. "Last start at Flemington it was very heavy and James came back to scale and said she didn’t handle it a bit."
"It’s good to see her bounce back," he added.
"She’s got good gate speed as you saw tonight. She was strong to the line – that gives us a bit of confidence with her going forward.
"I think there are a couple of options for her during Cup week, listed races for three-year-old fillies – so we’ll probably head down that track."
She has now won two of her three starts and is unbeaten on dry tracks.
Bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park, Blink is the first foal of Group Two winner Bridie Belle (NZ).
