Promising Hinchinbrook filly Spright resumed from a spell to score a barnstorming win at Rosehill on Wednesday carrying the famed purple and white colours of the White family. Prepared by Garry Grazer at Hawkesbury, Spright was stakes-placed twice from five starts in her first preparation so has always shown a touch of class. She was also beaten just half a length when third in a maiden event at Rosehill in February won by Omei Sword, who will run a hot favourite in the Group I ATC Flight Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. With form like that it was no surprise to see Spright come charging home late for Kerrin McEvoy to score a short neck win in the 1100 metre maiden. “It was a good win with the rail out to come from where she did,” said Frazer. “I think she’ll be better at 1400 metres or a bit further as we’ve been teaching her to relax. “She’s grown a good two inches and put on 30kg since last time. She’s a much stronger filly.” Spright was a $100,000 Inglis Premier II purchase from the Grange Thoroughbreds draft and was the highest priced filly sold in that part of the sale. She was a successful pinhook having been bought as a weanling by Gary Mudgway for just $12,000 at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale. A half-sister to Group III placed Mine Two, Spright is the third winner from Dashoff, who comes from the family of Group I winner Ideal Planet. Spright runs for a syndicate that includes members of the White family in whose colours she runs. They have been carried by superstars such as Marscay, Triscay, Yippyio, Eremein and Filante, so Spright has some big shoes to fill.
