Pukekohe trainer Nigel Tiley believes he has unleashed a potential Karaka Million contender in The Justice League, who produced a dominant display to win comfortably on debut as a heavily backed favourite.

The powerful son of I Am Invincible had plenty of pre-race pundits confident of his chances following an impressive trial performance at Ruakaka earlier in the month and the two-year-old gelding didn’t disappoint his legion of supporters who backed him in to a dominant $1.90 favourite as the gates opened.

Jumping nicely from an awkward barrier draw of seven in the 10 horse field, rider Leith Innes settled the colt on the outside of pacemaker Okagbare before issuing his challenge as they entered the home straight.

The Justice League quickly mastered his rival and ran away from the rest as he scored easing down by four and a half lengths in 1.11.09 for the 1200 metre journey.

“He was pretty much above himself and a bit of handful to get out there today but it’s great to see him get to the line like that as he’s a very special horse,” said Tiley.

“I just said to Leith to get him into a rhythm as I don’t care if you lead or trail as long as he’s doing his own thing he will be fine.”

The Justice League was a $50,000 NZB Select Sale purchase for his trainer from the draft of Lyndhurst Farm and is the third winner from three to race from L’Artiste, a winning grand-daughter of stakes-winner Jewel in the Crown from the family of international Group I winner Sterling City.

Also saluting for I Am Invincible were two year-old colt Most Important who won at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday at his second start and two year-old gelding Sargent Doakes, who made it two wins as many starts when scoring at Scone on Saturday for Rod Northam.
