Yarraman Park stalwart Magic Albert passed a milestone on Saturday in siring his 20thstakes-winner with Magic Boy taking out the Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas at Morphettville.

Prepared by Jon O’Connor, Magic Boy overcame an outside draw to win the 1600 metre feature by a long neck with Jason Holder in the saddle.

It was the fifth win from 14 starts for Magic Boy, who has also been placed a further five times earning over $166,000 in prizemoney.


Magic Boy was a $44,000 Inglis Classic Summer Book purchase for his trainer from the draft of Kitchwin Hills and is the first foal of winning Tobougg (IRE) mare Zeta.

Magic Boy was one of four winners on Saturday for Magic Albert, who has proven to be a top class source of winners over the years leaving over 400 of them with total progeny earnings topping $30 million.

Saluting at Rosehill on Saturday in a Benchmark 85 event was Alan Denham’s talented sprinter Alberto Magic (pictured Steve Hart) , who dashed away to win by two and a quarter lengths as favourite at his first run back from a spell.

The four year-old gelding has the impressive record of five wins and two seconds from just nine starts with prizemoney topping $122,000.

Completely free of Northern Dancer, Mr Prospector and Star Kingdom blood, Magic Albert is the proven outcross and for those breeders looking at the value end of the market he’s priced to appeal at $11,000.

Magic Albert had seven yearlings average $81,429 at Magic Millions this year and across the board at all sales has had 39 yearlings average $55,385.
