Sydney, November 30 – Magic Albert five year-old Something Anything passed a career milestone at Randwick on Saturday when his prizemoney total broke the $400,000 mark after a sterling win in the open sprint over 1150 metres.
Having his second run back from a spell of 19 weeks, the Gary Portelli trained gelding turned in one of the best runs of his career in racing right away from stakes-winning mare Tenant’s Tiara to win by the best part of two lengths.
“He used to be a bit of a head case as a younger horse but is starting to put it all together,” Portelli said.
“He’s got some good form around him at his last few starts and deserved that win today.
“He’s been a very good horse to the stable and his owners and hopefully he can continue on from today.”
Something Anything has the overall record of five wins and 13 placings from 31 starts with prizemoney of $400,820 and will now be tested out for a possible start in the Group Two AJC Villiers Handicap at Randwick on December 20.
“He’ll go to a 1400m handicap at Rosehill in a fortnight and if he runs it solid he’ll go to the Villiers,” Portelli said.
“If not we’ll take him to Queensland for a $200,000 Listed race on the same day over 1350m at Doomben.”
A $40,000 purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park at the 2005 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Something Anything is the sixth foal of the Kala Dancer (GB) mare Maline, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to We’re Dancing and half-sister to Group Three winner Allez Glen.
Magic Albert has three yearlings catalogued for the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale including a sister to Group Three placed General Albert and a brother to Group Two placed Magic Jet.
At the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Magic Albert is poised to play a major part with an impressive draft of 18 youngsters on offer making him among the most represented sires at the sale.
