Trial watchers have been waiting for the first race day appearance from the little brother to ill-fated star sprinter Libertini and he duly saluted at Wyong on Sunday.

Trained by Michael Freedman, well regarded I Am Invincible colt Hawaii Five Oh was a heavily backed favourite and despite racing greenly was able to score a neck win in the 1200m maiden.

A homebred for Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, Hawaii Five Oh is a full brother to multiple Group II winning sprinter Libertini and is from Group I ATC Coolmore Classic winner Aloha.

Aloha has been a tricky breeder in recent years and has not had a living foal since Hawaii Five Oh.

Hawaii Five Oh capped a flurry of success over the last few days for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible, who held court at the Mitchell family-owned farm on Friday afternoon at our annual stallion parade.

He sired a new stakes-winner last Friday when Garibaldi won the Listed Goldmarket at the Gold Coast and then his star Kiwi-trained mare Imperatriz dominated the Group II Foxbridge Plate in New Zealand on Saturday.

The Te Akau owned mare won her final two starts last season in Group I races and has picked up right where she left off with a first-up win last month at Ruakaka.

Sent out favourite for the Group II Foxbridge Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa on Saturday, she was utterly dominant opening up to win by nearly six lengths taking her overall record to nine wins from 12 starts.

“She’s one right out of the box,” said her trainer Mark Walker.

“She is quite special and it is good to see Opie back riding well on a day like this.

“(Starting at Ruakaka) was more about predicting the track could be heavy today, so we didn’t want to hurt her coming here first up with the program she has ahead of her.

“She galloped brilliantly on Tuesday and I said to Sam Bergerson (assistant trainer ) I thought she was ready and she didn’t need a gallop on Thursday.

“When the track turned up the way it did you do second guess yourself, but I think we got it right.”

Imperatriz will now head to the first Group I contest of the season in New Zealand, the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) at Hastings in a fortnight, with her rider Opie Bosson excited about the mare putting in a similar effort.

“She was a different horse today from Ruakaka because as soon as she got on the track, she was pumped up underneath me,” he said.

“Across the top all I wanted to do was let her go, she was going that good and when I released the brakes, man she can go.

“It felt like we were on a good track with how quick she went and I can’t wait to get on a better track and to hold her up for longer as she could be even more explosive.

“After today I think she is right on for Hastings.”

I Am Invincible will cover another full book of mares at a fee of $247,500 this spring.
