A brilliant Group II winning sprinter that contested The Everest last year, Shades of Rose (pictured below) was one top mare that is not going to Yulong following the first day of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale with Arrowfield Stud paying $1.6million to secure her from the Yarraman Park draft.

The Bjorn Baker trained daughter of Rubick has won over $900,000 and is a half-sister to Group winner Scallopini from Rose of Mulan, whose weanling filly by Hellbent sold for $400,000 at the Gold Coast last week

“She was our number one pick in the sale. I thought she was the mare to buy, you can never be confident in this market you can buy anything irrespective of how you value them and how much money you’re prepared to go to for them because it’s that type of market,” said Arrowfield Stud’s Jon Freyer.

“But we were really thrilled to be able to get her. We had to stump up for her, but in the fullness of time these high-class mares, they’ll pay you back.

“She’s a half to a really good horse by Snitzel (Scallopini), so we’ll either mate her to Snitzel or The Autumn Sun.

“She was just a filly that we admired for so long. It’s a family we like and we just think she’ll match really well with our stallions.”

Shades of Rose was foaled and raised at Yarraman for her breeders Steve and Louise Gillard and her dam Rose of Mulan is in foal to I Am Invincible.

Offered by Yarraman Park as a breeding proposition only, quality Group II winning Pierro filly Paris Dior (header image) will now call Colmore Australia home after being secured by Tom Magnier for $1.6million.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Paris Dior won the $1million Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes and retires with earnings topping $1.2million.

Retained to race by her breeders Steve Wildeand Bill Hilton, after passing in as a yearling, Paris Dior has proven an amazing money spinner as the first foal of Entrancing, a winning Exceed and excel grand-daughter of former slick stakes-winning sprinter Nanny Maroon.

Pierro has a growing reputation as a broodmare sire having produced the dams of dual Group I winner Jacquinot and three more juvenile stakes-winners this season – Chilled, I Am Unstoppable and The Spirit of Zero.

“I think Pierro as a broodmare sire has become a real talking point. He’s doing a great job as a broodmare sire and he’s doing a great job on the racetracks,” Tom Magnier said.

“She’s very good looking and we’ll take her home but the Pierro factor was a big part of the play there.”

The sale continues.
