Sydney, September 8 — Catbird’s Group One winning son Cats Fun is in Sydney for a tilt at the Group One AJC The Metropolitan and will be seen in action at Randwick on Saturday.

The four-year old gelding will begin his Sydney campaign in the Group Two AJC Chelmsford Stakes, a weight-for-age contest over 1550 metres.

“It’s his first time racing in the clockwise direction and I don’t know how he will go on the track," commented trainer Michael Grant to AAP.

“It could be confusing because if he fails then it will be hard to know if it is the way of going, the track or the distance.”

Grant is extremely happy with the condition of Cats Fun, who has settled comfortably into his new surrounds after flying from his home town of Perth to Melbourne last week and then traveling to Sydney by road.

The son of Catbird bloomed last preparation when tried as a stayer, his career highlight coming when taking out the Group One WATC Derby over 2400 metres, with his staying prowess attributed to his dam She’s Zeel (NZ), a daughter of champion sire Zabeel.

Cats Fun is one of seven Australian stakes-winners sired by Catbird who was the leading third crop sire last season in terms of individual winners.
