Hong Kong, September 24 – Former Sydney galloper Jovial scored his first win in Hong Kong on Sunday when taking out the Class Three event over 1650 metres on the all weather surface under the name of Global Win.
By Redoute’s Choice from the Marauding (NZ) mare Hit and Giggle, Global Win (Jovial) was sold by Yarraman Park as agent at the 2003 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale fetching $210,000 to the bid of Gai Waterhouse.
While with the Waterhouse stable Jovial won five races from 11 starts earning $161,450 and gained Black Type when second in the Listed STC Darby Munro Stakes.
He transferred to Hong Kong in October last year, joining the stable of South African trainer David Ferraris, who now has the five-year old firing with a win and a second from his last three starts.
Global Win was forced to do some work to get over from a wide barrier, but then took over and controlled the race throughout kicking strongly in the straight to win by three-quarters of a length.
