Melbourne, October 16 – Glamour mare Rewaaya lost no admirers with a hard fought second in the Group One MRC Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday, going down by a neck to Red Dazzler after leading throughout.
The David Hayes trained mare went up three and a half kilograms on her previous Group One victory and after drawing wide was forced into the unfamiliar role of leader.
Considering the circumstances her performance was outstanding and this quality mare is a force to be reckoned with in whatever she contests.
Foaled in New Zealand, but then raised at Yarraman Park Stud for her owner Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum, Rewaaya has now won $682,030 in prizemoney.
Also raised at Yarraman is Rewaaya’s half-sister Saywaan, who ran a promising third at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
The Zabeel filly raced quite fresh over the 1000 metres and will be greatly improved by the run, so keep an eye out for when David Hayes sends her out again.
