October 22 – The winning run continued for Catbird over the weekend with smart mare Mimidae backing up to score again at Randwick and a double at Gosford on Sunday courtesy of Next Adventure and impressive debut winner Lively Bird.

The John O’Shea trained Mimidae is flying at present and while some people might have thought her win over Hoystar the previous week was some sort of fluke, that proved not the case as she stepped up to Class Six company and bolted in.

Settling just off the pace from barrier one, Mimidae accelerated impressively in the straight to win the 1200 metre event by two and a half lengths taking her earnings to $111,880.

Raced by Luskin Park Stud and partners, Mimidae has won four of 12 starts and has positively blossomed this preparation.

A $120,000 purchase from the draft of Stratheden Stud at the 2004 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, she is the fifth foal of the Caerleon mare Sufuf (GB) (now deceased), a daughter of Sir Tristram (IRE) stakes-winner Deira.

Three-year old Catbird gelding Lively Bird could be one to watch from the Kris Lees stable after spread-eagling his rivals with a five and a half length win at Gosford on Sunday over 1000 metres.

Retained to race by his breeder, Lively Bird is the fourth foal of the winning Rory’s Jester mare Momoco.
