Melbourne, November 6 – Alinghi’s little sister Perfect Persuasion has had her proposed race debut in the Listed Jayco Stakes at Flemington on Tuesday deferred for the time being and will be put aside for a short break.
“She trialled last month at Cranbourne and went really well, but as can happen with young horses they just come to the end of it after a certain time in the stables and Lee feels she’ll be better for a short break,” said Arthur Mitchell of Yarraman Park Stud.
“With a filly of her quality there is no point in going around for experience, you want every run to be when they are at the top of their game.”
Bred and sold by Yarraman Park Stud for the record sum of $2.6 million at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Perfect Persuasion is the most expensive yearling filly ever sold in Australasia.
The fifth foal of stakes-placed Oceanfast, the Encosta de Lago filly is a full sister to former champion two and three-year old filly Alinghi, who kicked off her career with a brilliant win in a Listed event in the spring of 2003.
Yarraman Park will still have a keen interest in the race on Tuesday with the engagement of another Encosta de Lago filly Apercu, sold by the stud for $470,000 at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
From the stakes-placed Zabeel mare Making Fey (NZ), the Clarrie Conners trained Apercu turned in an encouraging run when second on debut at Randwick behind Goldam and with race experience warrants her share of respect.
