Sydney March 8 – Smart Catbird mare Misty D’ Cat provided South Coast trainer Paul Murray with his first metropolitan winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday when she took out the Class Four event over 2200 metres.
Ridden quietly back in the field she forged clear in the straight to win by the best part of a length, making it back-to back wins after a 2000 metre victory at Kembla last start.
“It’s a big thrill and full credit to Misty she really deserved it,” said a delighted Paul Murray.
“She was on her way to the sales before she won at Kembla but now we are looking at the Provincial Stayers Championship at Newcastle on Newmarket day and we might even have a look at the Albury Cup. She’s a tough little thing, what she lacks in size she makes up for in ticker.”
Retained to race by her breeder, Misty D’ Cat is the ninth foal of Group Two placed Misty Power, who has been a regular visitor to Misty D’Cat’s sire in recent seasons, being covered by Catbird three times subsequently and then visiting Magic Albert last spring.
