South Africa, September 13 – $3 million Redoute’s Choice colt Nodoubt Deja turned in an encouraging debut at Clairwood in South Africa on Wednesday when stepping out for the first time in a maiden event over 1200 metres.
Looking above himself in condition, the aristocratic bay showed plenty of speed to race prominently throughout and then went to the post gamely to hold second place when headed with a furlong to run.
Trained by Charles Laird, Nodoubt Deja will doubtless derive plenty of benefit from the outing and will strip a much fitter conveyance at his next assignment.
Bred and sold by Yarraman Park at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Nodoubt Deja was the first yearling to crack the $3million barrier at public auction in Australia whenknocked down to Laird on behalf of his major client Marcus Jooste.
By champion sire Redoute’s Choice, the record-breaking colt is a half-brother to stakes-placed gallopers Top Slice and Bull Market being from the Slew O’Gold mare Deja Slew (USA).
Deja Slew (USA) produced a filly by ill-fated Golden Slipper winner Catbird last spring and she was covered last year by Fastnet Rock.
