Wyong, December 19 – Owner breeder Denis Wilton enjoyed a magic result at Wyong on Thursday when his three year-old Magic Albert gelding Maitland Magic made a winning debut in the 1100 metre maiden.

The Kris Lees trained Maitland Magic was ridden a treat by Dale Spriggs from barrier three and when asked to go forward and challenge, the powerful chestnut strode away to win by the best part of a length in an impressive performance.

Maitland Magic is the result of a mating between two former top gallopers both raced and still owned by Denis Wilton in Magic Albert and Maitland Gold.

A $22,500 yearling purchase from the old ABCOS Sale in Adelaide in 1999, Maitland Gold won four races and over $290,000 in prizemoney for Mr Wilton, her career highlight coming with a win over the colts in the Group Two STC Phar Lap Stakes.

The year after purchasing Maitland Gold, Mr Wilton returned to the sales purchasing a dashing colt by Zeditave from Sally Lou at Magic Millions on the Gold Coast for $120,000, a horse that would go on to become the Group Two winner Magic Albert.

Retired to Yarraman Park in 2002, Magic Albert has proven a great success at stud producing a stream of smart winners including Group One winner Magic Cape and stakes horses Alberto, Magic Jet, Something Anything, Lieserl, Maritess and Al Be Nimble, etc.

Maitland Gold was retired a year later in 2003 and went to Magic Albert in her first season at stud with Maitland Magic the result of that mating.

She also has a yearling full sister to Maitland Magic and produced a filly foal this spring by Lonhro.
