Brisbane, December 6 – Rapidly improving four year-old Albert the Fat overcame barrier 14 and 57.5 kg to score a facile two length win in the Class Six event over 1200 metres at Doomben on Saturday.
A smart winner at his first run back from a spell on November 22, the Eden Petrie trained son of Magic Albert has gone on beautifully since then and looked a horse of real potential as he accelerated to the finish.
Albert the Fat is the stable star for Petrie, who was actively engaged as part of the training team for Albert The Fat’s last campaign with the official trainer Dale Sutton often required in Victoria to oversee the Wadham Park operation.
Sutton now has severed ties with the Wadham property at Canungra and Petrie has taken a lease on a small block with Albert the Fat the star of his fledgling team.
A winner of seven of ten starts and more than $170,000 in prizemoney, Albert the Fat won two good class open three year-old events in Brisbane back in June and his encouraging return has prompted connections to look towards some of the major races during the Brisbane summer carnival with likely targets including the $200,000 Doomben Stakes (1200m) on December 20; $200,000 Bernborough Handicap (1615m) on December 27; and $500,000 Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on January 10.
A $40,000 purchase for Wadham Park from the draft of Rheinwood Pastoral during Session Five at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Albert the Fat is from the Bureaucracy mare Alemar, a full sister to stakes-placed Mastery.
Magic Albert also added a winning double at the Gold Coast on Saturday with victories for Albert Cadabra and Margy Magic, plus a winner at Cranbourne on Sunday when Banvi Maeve broke her maiden.
Magic Albert has three yearlings catalogued for the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale including a sister to Group Three placed General Albert and a brother to Group Two placed Magic Jet.
At the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Magic Albert is poised to play a major part with an impressive draft of 18 youngsters on offer making him among the most represented sires at the sale.
