Brisbane, April 27 – The Listed QTC Queensland Day Plate at Eagle Farm on Saturday provided two new stakes horses for consistent sire Magic Albert with promising three year-olds Za Magic and Plain Magic filling the placings behind the winner Bold Glance.
An impressive winner of the $100,000 Magic Millions Two Year Old Plate last June at the Gold Coast and fourth in the Listed QTC Australia Post Stakes as a two year-old, the Maryanne Thexton trained Za Magic looks set for a good carnival judging by his strong second.
A $36,000 purchase from the draft of Oakwood Farm at the 2006 MM National Weanling Sale, Za Magic is the third foal of the metropolitan winning Zabeel mare Zab Watch (NZ) and has plenty in his female pedigree to suggest he can run further than the 1400 metres of this assignment.
A half-sister to the dam of Group Three winner Tantalic, Zab Watch is a grand-daughter of champion filly Surround, the Australian Horse of the Year in 1977.
Also snaring her first Black Type was progressive filly Plain Magic, who has been in terrific form since resuming from a spell and has the overall record of two wins and three placings from six starts with prizemoney in excess of $80,000.
The Kelly Schweida trained Plain Magic runs in the ownership of Racetree proprietor Kevin Dixon and was purchased for $19,000 from the draft of Sellwood Holdings at the 2007 Magic Millions Premier Yearling Sale.
She is a full sister to another handy winner in Mistry being from the Forest Glow (USA) mare Glow Misty For Me, a daughter of stakes-placed Misty Power from a very fast running female family.
