Sydney, May 26 – Astute conditioner David Payne enjoyed a winning double at Warwick Farm on Tuesday with the second of his winners being the improving Catbird three year-old Big Red Cat, who saluted in the restricted three year-old event by the best part of a length.

Big Red Cat broke his maiden when resuming from a spell at Kembla on March 14 and has been thereabouts in recent runs so was overdue to break through.

A $26,000 purchase for Wayne Cooper Bloodstock from the draft of Southern Cross Breeders at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Big Red Cat is form the former good metropolitan winning Red Tony (IRE) Our Red Star, dam of stakes-placed No Limit, the dam of this season’s Group Three winning three year-old Dr Doute’s.

The final crop of Catbird yearlings have been offered at the sales this year with three more catalogued for the 2009 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

A great favourite at Yarraman Park before his premature death in 2007, Golden Slipper winner Catbird is fast closing in on 100 winners for the season with 97 to his credit including stakes-winners Facile Tigre, Burgeis and The Tiger.
