Gold Coast, January 9 – Talented Magic Albert mare Plain Magic gave her connections a big thrill when taking out the $200,895 Paspaley Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Trainer Kelly Schweida was confident leading into the race after the mare had cruised home at her previous run in Brisbane.
"It was a good win last start," Schweida commented. "She’s really put it together."
"We were a little bit worried with the speed and also where the best going was, but Jim rode her perfect."
"She had the ten alley and he was always going to be a touch aggressive and see what they wanted to do early."
"He was going to lead if nothing wanted to lead. But there ended up to be a bit of speed inside her so he let her go and it was a good win."
Plain Magic was sent out the popular elect and raced away over the concluding stages to take the 1300 metre feature by three lengths.
Schweida said Plain Magic had always shown good ability and today’s win was just rewards for a quality performer.
"She’s always shown us something. From day one she’s showed us ability."
I said to the owner this goes good, but she’s very plain and that is how she got her name."
"Her last two wins have been good. She’s been racing in good quality races."
Already a black type performer, Plain Magic has now won Dixon an ever increasing $278,900 in prizemoney.
Plain Magic was purchased for $19,000 from the draft of Sellwood Holdings at the 2007 Magic Millions Premier Yearling Sale.
She is a full sister to another handy winner in Mistry being from the Forest Glow (USA) mare Glow Misty for Me, a daughter of stakes-placed Misty Power from a very fast running female family.
Magic Albert also had a promising first starter in Sydney with the Grahame Begg trained two year-old Ilovethiscity finishing a close and unlucky second at Randwick.
A $40,000 purchase from the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale last year, the talented colt is being aimed towards the $250,000 Inglis Classic.
