Brisbane, February 6 – Four year-old Magic Albert mare Plain Magic has struck a rare vein of form this preparation and after rolling to her fourth consecutive win at Doomben on Saturday has boosted her earnings to a whopping $405,950.
Trained by Kelly Schweida for Racetree Stud owner Kevin Dixon, Plain Magic jumped smartly from the outside gate and travelled easily up to second place and when asked to accelerate at the top of the straight did so with a minimum of fuss.
She let down impressively to run the 1200 metres in 1:09.09, with smart mare Chakvetadze chasing home strongly for second more than a length behind her.
Plain Magic was purchased for $19,000 from the draft of Sellwood Holdings at the 2007 Magic Millions Premier Yearling Sale and has the overall record of seven wins and three placings from 15 starts with prizemoney of $405,950.
A half sister to the Melbourne winner Mistry, Plain Magic is from the twice Sydney winner Glow Misty for Me.
A daughter of Forest Glow (USA), Glow Misty for Me is from stakes-placed Misty Power, who hails from the family of Group Two Western Australian Guineas winner River Mist as well as Group One winning sprinter Notoire and Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winner Tempest Tost.
Plain Magic is now the second highest stakes-earner for her sire Magic Albert behind only Group Two AJC Villiers hero Something Anything.
