Brisbane, October 7 – Expensive yearling purchase Shoot Through broke the ice for his first victory at Doomben on Wednesday.

Now a four year-old gelding, the $2.2 million Inglis Easter purchase finally put his best foot forward winning the 1030 metre maiden by the best part of a length as favourite.

The John Thompson trained Shoot Through is raced by Patinack Farm, Keith Grocott, Alan Bell, John Symons and his breeders Yarraman Park, who retained an interest in the full brother to champion filly and four-time Group One winner Alinghi.

A son of champion sire Encosta de Lago, Shoot Through is the fifth winner for outstanding producer Oceanfast, who is also the grand-dam of last season’s top class juvenile colt Beneteau.

Oceanfast has no yearling for the sales in 2011, but has already foaled this spring producing a colt by More Than Ready (USA) on August 28.
