Melbourne, September 30 – Progressive Fastnet Rock mare Born to Rock resumed from a spell to score a strong win at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
A stakes-winner in Queensland during the winter carnival and Group I placed, the Mike Moroney trained mare has returned in top order carrying top weight and leading throughout to win the 1200 metre open sprint for mares in fine style.
“We were a little bit worried about the rain and the track,” Moroney said.
“I think she’s stronger this time around and she’s a good quality mare.
“We’d like to think we’ll have a go at the Group II Salinger (Stakes) with her. We’re keen on that and to keep her back to the sprinting trips and she will possibly go further (in distance) in the autumn.”
Born to Rock has the impressive record of five wins and two placings from 13 starts and prizemoney in excess of $180,000.
Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Born to Rock fetched $210,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale when purchased by Gwent Holdings and is a full sister to last season’s stakes-placed two year-old Cindarockinrella.
Born to Rock is the first stakes-winner for blue-blooded import Call Me Pretty (USA), a half-sister by Peaks and Valleys to stakes-winners Tiger’s Rock and Warrior Queen, the dam of Group II winner AP Warrior tracing back to the family of Group I winner and champion sire Storm Bird.
