Hong Kong, September 9 – Racing resumed in Hong Kong at Sha Tin last Saturday and an interesting winner on the program was Magic Albert gelding Vital Flyer, who beat last season’s Champion Griffin Amber Sky to win the Class Two sprint over 1000 metres.
Winner of the Group III STC Frederick Clissold Stakes in Sydney as a three year-old under the name of Marchinski, the now seven year-old Vital Flyer has proven a success since transferring to Hong Kong and now has the overall record of six wins and nine placings from 39 starts.
“He does run well fresh but the key to getting him to win again was putting blinkers back on him, using a lugging bit and having a left handed whip rider,” said his trainer Michael Chang Chun-wai.
“Vital Flyer has become a difficult horse now he’s getting old – he lays in badly and is a difficult ride when he races around turns, so that’s why I want to try to keep him to the straight. He lays out a bit on this course but Howard (Cheng) is left-handed with the whip so he can handle him.”
Vital Flyer is a half-brother to stakes-winner Shepishir and stakes-placed Theophorus being from good producer Elishir.
