Hawkesbury, June 3 – Australia’s leading first season sire I Am Invincible had an impressive debut winner at Hawkesbury on Tuesday when Va Va Veni won as he pleased.

A market drifter, the Michael Costa trained Va Va Veni belied the lack of support in the betting ring to bolt away and win the 1000 metre scamper by five lengths.

Va Va Veni was passed in at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by Widden Stud after failing to make her $20,000 reserve and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Gorgeous Dancer, a winning Grand Lodge daughter of stakes-placed Courageous Dancer (IRE).

Va Va Veni is the 15th first crop winner for I Am Invincible, whose classy son Braze Beau will contest the Group I BRC JJ Atkins Stakes this weekend.

I Am Invincible has had a fee increase this year and will stand at $27,500.

Also saluting at Hawkesbury was promising three year-old Sense of Occasion, an $80,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park.

The Wendy Walter trained son of Street Sense (USA) scored by five lengths over 1800 metres, his second win from five starts.

Bred by Shadwell and foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Sense of Occasion is the second winner from Saywaan, a half-sister by Zabeel to Group I winner Rewaaya.
