Bendigo, June 26 – Australia’s leading first season sire I Am Invincible added another eye-catching winner to his tally when two year-old gelding Honest Lee opened his career with a dominant victory at Bendigo on Thursday.
Easy in the market, sent out at $9, Honest Lee jumped smartly for Steven King and led throughout to beat a big field of 15 by two lengths in the 1000 metre maiden on a heavy 8.
Prepared by Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison, Honest Lee was an $85,000 Magic Millions purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the draft of Broadwater Thoroughbreds.
Bred by Reg Kemister, he is a half-brother to stakes-placed Raeburn and is the second winner for Portrait, an unraced half-sister by Octagonal to Group II winning sire Jet Spur.
Portrait was one of 175 mares covered last spring by I Am Invincible, who has had a fee increase this year and will cover a full book at $27,500 at Yarraman Park.
Honest Lee is the 16th individual winner for I Am Invincible, who has sired five stakes-winners headed by Brazen Beau.
