Melbourne, November 8 – Promising young sire Hinchinbrook is knocking on the door of posting his first winner with three smart place-getters to date headed by exciting prospect Old Trieste, who opened his career with a gallant second in the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington on Saturday.

Prepared by Andrew Noblet, Old Trieste won a trial at Cranbourne last month and ran right up to that form when finishing off solidly to be beaten two lengths by Prompt Return in the 1000 metres dash which featured a highly competitive field of 14.

Passed in at Magic Millions, Old Trieste runs for the Alteri family and is from stakes-placed Choisir mare Love’s Great.

In Sydney at Randwick, the Gai Waterhouse trained Hinchinbrook filly Carriages was third in the open juvenile event on debut and will be improved for the run.

A three-quarter brother by Fastnet Rock to Snitzel, Hinchinbrook is currently running third on the first season sires list by earnings behind Beneteau and Starspangledbanner.
