The Listed BRC Phelan Ready Stakes at Doomben on Saturday was won in spectacular fashion by exciting I Am Invincible colt Sundance, a $140,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newhaven Park draft for Blue Sky Bloodstock and his trainer Toby Edmonds. Narrowly beaten on debut at Doomben last month, Sundance made amends when jumping straight to the front from gate one for Jeff Lloyd. He controlled the race and bolted clear to win the 1050 metre scamper by nearly five lengths earning his spot in the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January. “He might have a trial or a jump-out but he is in the Millions field now so I won’t do too much,” said Edmonds, who trained his sire I Am Invincible in the early part of his career. Sundance has some interesting line breeding as he is the second winner for Pacific Dreams, a half-sister by Desert Prince (IRE) to the dam of his sire I Am Invincible. He has a 3 x 2 double cross of Countess Pedrille, the full sister to Group II winner Mamzelle Pedrille and also a close 3 x 3 double cross of champion sire Green Desert. Sundance is the tenth stakes-winner for Yarraman Park’s star sire I Am Invincible, who also had an impressive debut two year-old winner at Kembla on Saturday in Cudabeen. Retained to race by her breeder Mike O’Donnell of Fairhill Farm after passing in twice as a yearling and as a broken in two year-old, Cudabeen scored by a long head as favourite for the Tracey Bartley stable. With four juvenile winners already this season, I Am Invincible is up running second on the Australian Two Year Old Sires List by earnings.
