The well-known blue and red colours carried by champion colt Pierro were in the winner’s circle at Warwick Farm on Wednesday aboard impressive I Am Invincible gelding Ebenos, a $300,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Yarraman Park draft. Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Ebenos was resuming from a break following three inconclusive runs on wet tracks in the spring. He settled back in the field for Hugh Bowman and came home with a rush to win the 1100 metre maiden by a length with race favourite Shackleton, a $1.35 million Inglis Easter purchase, trailing home in fifth place. “I liked the way he hit the line,” Bowman said. “I think he’s got more in store but he’s a horse that needs things to go his way. “He probably lacks a little bit of confidence and he’s going to take a lot of confidence from today’s performance.” The second highest priced offering at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling sale, Ebenos was originally bought by Gai Waterhouse, but was transferred out of that stable before he raced. He is the second and final foal of Pure Ebony, who died in 2013. Yarraman Park have another outstanding draft for the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale with 21 youngsters to be offered in Sydney.
