August 7 – An exciting metropolitan winner with a bright future and a gorgeous foal make this a good news week for one lucky owner/breeder.

Well known Gold Coast based racehorse owner Yvonne Smith had cause to celebrate on Saturday when the Peter Moody trained filly Meliora scored a resounding victory at Morphettville.

Meliora was sent out a hot favourite for the 1300 metre event and gave nothing else a chance in leading throughout to win by four and a half lengths.

A homebred for Mrs Smith, the daughter of Ad Valorem (USA) has now scored easy wins at her past two starts at Geelong and then in Adelaide and looks a filly of some promise.

Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Meliora is a half-sister to smart Sydney metropolitan winners Daintree Road and Suki and is the third winner from three foals to race from Sunset Boulevard, who was raced by Mrs Smith and retained for stud duties.

Mrs Smith has enjoyed much success over the years as an owner through horses such as Assertive Lad and Arlington Road, her breeding interests now also reaping rewards.

Meliora now has a baby half-brother after Sunset Boulevard delivered this colt by promising young sire I Am Invincible at Yarraman Park on the weekend.
