Adelaide, March 15 – The powerful David Hayes stable scored impressive wins at Cheltenham on Wednesday with the Catbird gelding Tuqiri and the Magic Albert filly Forewarning.

Lightly raced Tuqiri bolted in by four lengths in winning the maiden event over 1300 metres at his third race start after finishing third in his previous races.

Purchased from the draft of Kelso Thoroughbreds as agent for Yarraman Park at the 2005 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Tuqiri fetched $43,000 to the bid of Prime Thoroughbreds boss Joe O’Neill.

Tuqiri is the fourth foal of the Group One placed Gold and Ivory (USA) mare North Lady (NZ), a daughter of VRC Oaks winner Tristram’s Belle.

The win of Tuqiri was preceded by a smashing victory by three year-old Magic Albert filly Forewarning who romped in to break her maiden by three lengths.

Second when first up from a spell on February 25, Forewarning stripped fitter this time around and made no mistakes in scoring a dominant win over the 1000 metres as a hot favourite.

Secured by astute agent Mark Pilkington for just $40,000 from the draft of Rheinwood Pastoral at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Forewarning is the first living foal of former good racemare Gale Warning, a half-sister by Mighty Avalanche to stakes-winner Princess Marengo from the family of Group One winner Chipolata, Group Two winner Pipiwar and Group Three winner Dance Beat.

Forewarning becomes the 26th individual winner for Magic Albert this season, the Group Two winning son of Zeditave proving a prolific source of winners.

His efforts are highlighted by the BOBS activity list on the Racing NSW website where he features with 16 wins and BOBS bonuses of $112,500.
