Sydney, February 24 – Magic Albert three year-old Al Be Nimble made a pleasing Sydney debut when he chased home Westicaro for second at Rosehill on Saturday, beaten a length in course record time for the 1100 metres.

Now with astute South Coast conditioner Gwenda Markwell after transferring south from the Brisbane stable of Dwayne Schmidt, Al Be Nimble was having just his second race start after winning on debut at Doomben back in November.

On that occasion Al Be Nimble bolted in by six lengths and his performance on Saturday would indicate he’ll be up to his ears in some of the nicer races for three year-olds this autumn.

Retained to race by his breeder, Al Be Nimble is the second living foal of the imported Danehill mare Nimble (IRE), a winner at 1600 metres in Italy.

Nimble (IRE) was among 180 mares covered by Magic Albert last spring at a fee of $11,000.
