Sydney February 28 – Talented filly Aggie Grey made it two wins from as many starts when she defied a betting drift to win impressively at Canterbury on Thursday night.
Prepared by Tim Martin, the speedy grey jumped swiftly from a wide draw and crossed steadily to the fence before taking a breather. When asked to go for home on the point of the turn she quickly shot clear and then held her rivals at bay to win the Ratings 75 event over 1200 metres by a neck.
“I told Matthew Palmer not to be in a hurry down the back and to let her get to the lead in her own good time,” said Martin.
“She’ll have a freshen up now and we’ll look at a stakes race with her late in March.”
Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Aggie Grey made just $20,000 when offered through the ring at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale with Arthur and Harry Mitchell electing to take a share in the filly.
By the fertility troubled shuttle sire Agnes World (USA), she is the second foal of stakes-placed Graphite Lass, whose dam Bratenahl is a sister to stakes-winner Fabulous Friscoe.
Graphite Lass sadly does not have a yearling for 2008, but did produce a Catbird colt last spring.
