Melbourne, July 9 – Speedy Catbird filly Vankedisi showed her rivals a clean pair of heels in leading throughout to win the three year-old open event over 1000 metres at Sandown on Wednesday.
The Lee Freedman trained filly crossed quickly from an outside draw and kept going to the line to score by the best part of a length.
A full sister to Group Three placed Anhinga, Vankedisi has proven a more than handy racehorse for popular Victorian syndicators Slade Bloodstock, winning five races and placing three times from 15 starts earning close to $70,000 in prizemoney.
A $150,000 purchase for Slade at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Vankedisi was bred and offered for sale by Yarraman Park.
She is from the good metropolitan winning Crested Wave (USA) mare Rippling Mill, who was covered again by Catbird in 2006 and produced a colt on September 8 last year before going to Magic Albert.
Slade Bloodstock have had some outstanding results with Yarraman sold yearlings having also won with Vankedisi’s sister Anhinga, Moment of Truth and Miss Meerkat as well as brilliant sprinter Here de Angels.
Vankedisi’s sire Catbird died prematurely last year at Yarraman Park but is having his usual good season on the track with 94 winners placing him third on the general sires list by individual winners behind only Encosta de Lago and Commands.
The final crop of Catbird foals will sell at yearling sales in 2009.
